Just Installed : High Voltage Coil and Livewires
Tech write up'sredrum writes "More power! More power! As I embark on my journey to build my 2011 JK, two things come to my mind as the new equipment is added. Power and gas mileage. My Jeep is my daily driver so this simply cannot be overlooked. My JK is a 2 door automatic currently running 32" muds and my fuel economy is about 14.5-15 mpg. Ouch! I intend to lift it 3.5" and roll 33" x 12.5"/ 15. So I did my homework and discovered Performance Distributors. Their firepower ignition promises to increase power and efficiency. So I contacted them and after a conversation with the ignition guru, they offered to sponsor the parts for my project. In 2 days time I received the package.

The install:
Went off without a hitch. First removed the old wires, coil and plugs. The three plugs on the left were a little difficult to access but a socket extension helped. The new plugs were gapped to .065 and installed. (Performance Distributors recommends Autolite platinum spark plugs)

Next the new coil was attached right to the factory mount.

Used the same 2 bolts. The Demon is high voltage for a complete burn and has brass terminals for the best conductivity.

Finally, the Livewires were installed. It is crucial that these are installed exactly as the originals were plug to coil. The high voltage of the new coil requires a heavier wire. These are 8mm thick and covered by heat treated fiberglass protected up to 1400 degrees F. Unlike many aftermarket wires, these are custom fit and are numbered for the correct cylinders. They come in a variety of colors.

The finished product and the vehicle.

Beginning to end the install took about an hour and a half.
Everything fit just as it should. No problems.

Immediately I could feel the difference in the power. Quicker and much smoother acceleration. As for the fuel economy, it was short ride back and the average economy was up almost 2 mpg. I will continue to monitor this and will update in the near future. But even 2 mpg means 36 more miles from a tank of gas. 2 1/2 gallons in my Jeep or roughly $8.00 a tank.

The cost of the complete firepower kit is $188.00 through Performance Distributors.

I would like to thank Steve at Performance Distributors of Memphis, Tennessee for his expertise and assistance.
Check them out at Performancedistributors.com

I would also like to thank Chris at AD Automotive in Joliet, Illinois for his exceptional service on the install.

old articles: GLJT Goes To The Cliffs Insane Terrain!
old articalsMost of the 4x4 community has heard the rumors and talk of a new off road park opening in a small town very near to the Chicago area, Marseilles IL.

After more than a year of meetings in Springfield for DNR grants, and meetings with the residents and town board in Marseilles, the park is finally a reality. A lot of the thanks has to go to local enthusiasts who showed up in force weekend after weekend for trail and fence building.

How to Build a Coalition and Save a Recreation Area
old articals

By Del Albright, BlueRibbon Ambassador

I was nodding off with my chin resting on my chest when the meeting speaker suddenly caught my attention. I hate it when that happens – he called out my name and asked me a question. Of course, because I’d been lost in dreams of trails and mountains, I had no clue what the question was. But my neighbor saved me and said, “Give your coalition speech.”

old articles: CO2 Air Tank ~by Missouri
old articalsMissouri writes "Having a source of air at substantial pressures is important on the trail, whether it be for the use of air tools or reseating a bead. The CO2 tank is an alternative to compressors and air tank combo be it belt driven or electric. This portable source of air can be put together easily and inexpensively. I will describe how to put together a cost effective system and where to get the parts needed. "

old articles: Exhaust Manifold Repair
old articalsSubmitted by "notoriousDUG"
Exhaust manifold cracks have been a common problem on the Jeep 4.0L since they introduced the tubular exhaust manifold. There are very few 4.0 powered Jeeps out there that have been used hard that will not experience this problem if they haven't already. While not a huge or dangerous problem, the exhaust leak can get annoying. There are several good ways to fix the crack. You can remove the stock manifold and repair it, you can replace it with another stock unit (and have it crack to) or you can replace it with an aftermarket header. Repair is cheapest, about $20 in gaskets. The next option is replacement with a stock part. The most expensive is the aftermarket header. Prices vary greatly depending on what you choose and the install may require slight modification to the exhaust.

old articalsTerrie Morris writes:
"Following is the procedure that I created to mount a 4 ft high lift jack directly behind the rear seat perched on the wheel wells. Most of this is common sense and you may wish to modify to your wishes...however this gives you the idea. The nice thing about this is that is "rollover proof" and it out of the elements and occupies space otherwise wasted."
